Bichectomy In Mexico

What is bichectomy?

Bichectomy is a cosmetic surgery that consists of removing from the face what are known as Bichat balls or bags, which are fat deposits located on the cheeks. These bags are just fat and not glands, so removing them is an ideal option to define the face; very common in people with round faces.

In male patients the face is defined and outlined, while in female patients the aim is to soften and define the face´s lines in order to achieve a stylized effect.

It must be taken into account that not all patients are suitable for this surgery, therefore, consulting with a specialist is necessary in order to have the correct assessment.

Bichectomy procedure

The surgeon will apply a local anesthetic similar to when a dentist numbs the gum.

He makes a small incision (approximately 1.5 cm) on the inside of the cheeks.

Through the incision, he will locate the Bichat balls below the muscle and remove them.

In some cases, the surgeon closes the incision with absorbable sutures, which do not require external bandages. In other cases, when the incision is very small, it does not close and is left to heal on its own.

The surgery lasts between 30 and 45 minutes, so it is an outpatient procedure.

Recovery

After surgery, it is recommended that the patient rests for 48 hours, comply in detail with the doctor’s recommendations and go to his control appointment after the rest time. You can resume your normal work after a couple of days, likewise you must comply with a soft diet the first week and resume physical activities gradually after a week. You should not be exposed to the sun during the first month since it could be a factor that could affect the results, which begin to be evident after the first month.

Ideal candidates

The ideal candidate for bichectomy is a healthy person, non-smoker or willing to quit smoking at least a few weeks before and after surgery so as not to interfere with healing. Patients with a rounded face, with “chipmunk cheeks” or “big cheeks”, who want to define the facial contour.
