How it is performed?

Ear surgery is usually performed under local anesthesia combined with sedation, and is almost always performed on an outpatient basis.

Usually, the patient can go back to school and work 5 to 7 days after surgery. It is advisable to wait to carry out activities such as contact sports, until after 1-2 months.

The surgery time duration ranges from 1 to 2 hours.

Otoplasty is surgical procedure that is performed through an incision in the back of the ear to expose the ear cartilage.

The cartilage is sculpted and folded back.

Sometimes a part of the cartilage is removed to make the ear smaller and give it a more natural appearance.

A little skin is removed from the back of the ear.

Internal stitches are used in order to maintain the new shape of the ear.

The resulting scar is behind the ear so it cannot be seen.

Usually the procedure is performed on both ears to achieve symmetry.

Possible Side Effects

• Most otoplasty patients feel fine a few hours after surgery.
• After surgery it is normal to feel pain, swelling, itching and burning in the area where the suture is located for 3-5 days.
